As one of Sydney’s elite select entry government schools, Fort Street High School was very keen to ensure that the school’s reputation was embodied in the functionality and design of their website.  The schools’ national reputation for leadership in education and extra curricula activities was not going to be taken for granted!

Crucial support also came from the Parents & Citizens and Alumni associations who were keen to support the project and also increase their engagement with the school.

The Principal (Ros Moxham) and Vice Principal (David Osland) were mindful of not only securing support from key school community stakeholders, but also ensuring that the school conformed with government online, accessibility and security standards. There would be no compromising on the website’s goals, timing or functionality.

Working with visionary and technically competent school leadership would prove to be both enormously rewarding and challenging. Ros Moxham and David Osland both recognised from the outset the potential of engaging the wider school community via the web. They understood the communication and cost saving potential of online technology.

The SitEducate platform would not only have to perform very well as a school website, but it would also need to function as a secure student portal. Every student would need to be able to securely login to access personalised education content. Teachers would not be forced to utilise this new online medium but rather encouraged to experiment and trial the very intuitive and yet powerful SitEducate system.

External associations would also be granted access to update and maintain their own sub-portals. This meant groups such as the Parent & Citizens association would have controlled access to a separate section of the website from which they could engage with their members.

Requirements

Marist College’s website had been developed more than 6 years prior. Although the site could be updated by the school it lacked functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Marist College was keen to promote its web address in all its marketing material and advertising, however felt that the reputation of the school was not adequately represented by the website.  It was time for a change!

Brother Peter Corr was mindful that the website was a compliment to the existing Catholic Education Office policies and eLearning resources. The site would not only have to look good and satisfy a range of requirements, but it would also have to operate alongside a sophisticated student portal and other online eLearning tools.

We were keen to not only exceed the design and functionality expectations of the school, but also deploy the project with as little fuss and imposition as possible. After all Brother Peter Corr and his team had a school to run!

As well as providing assistance to migrate content across from the old site, SitEducate provided onsite training to both content authors and site administrators. Due to the demands of getting the site up quickly, an interim training focusing on updating the news and calendaring sections of the site was provided to the school administration team.
